France vs Portugal Summary

These two international giants collide in their first meeting of this seasons UEFA Nations League. The rest of this group, group C, is made up by Sweden and Croatia, respectively.

France and Portugal met in the Euro 2016 final in Paris where a ‘Ronaldoless’ Portugal won the match 1-0 with the Portuguese super star acting as the new  stand in coach while injured on the sidelines!

However, Les Blues at the next given opportunity showed the world they could reach their full potential, winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia. A thrilling 4-2 victory over Croatia secured the trophy for Les Bleus.

Both teams have been off to an incredible start in the group, winning both of their opening games on match day one and two.

France Team News and Form

Paul Pogba sees his return to Deschamps side after having to miss September international fixtures due to the coronavirus. Houssem Aouar also sees an international call up and a chance to make his debut. Aouar was a top transfer target of Arsenal throughout the summer transfer window, but with no agreement being made by the two clubs, he remains a Lyon player for the next few months at least.

Also making a return are three Bayern Munich players in Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso. Deschamps gave them a break from the September fixtures because of Bayerns extended season thanks to their Champions League triumph.

France put on two impressive performances in match day one and two, initially beating Sweden 1-0 away from home, before the world cup final rematch provided the same scoreline as it did in Russia with France coming out 4-2 winners over Croatia.

Portugal Team News and Form

Portugal has started their Nations League incredibly well. In Portugals last game out, a Cristiano Ronaldo brace saw the Legendary Goal scorer hit over a century for his international side. Becoming only of one two players in international history to hit treble figures. The other being Ali Daei of Iran, who holds the record with one hundred and nine.

Portugal begin these run of international fixtures with a friendly against Spain on Wednesday night at 19:45.

Despite Manchester United’s poor start to the Premier League season, Bruno Fernandes is one player for the Red Devils who has been playing well. The Portuguese playmaker has two goals and one assist in his three Premier League appearances so far. He is a key factor to Fernando Santos’s system. Being able to utilise Bruno’s exceptional on the ball talent with his work rate and tenacity makes Portugal a major force in international football.

Top Scorers:

France Top Scorers:

Olivier Giroud (39 International Goals) – The prolific Frenchman is a player who has always let his goals and stats do the talking. Although not regarded by many as a ‘elite’ tier player. Giroud has had a fantastic Premier League career for both Arsenal and Chelsea. The big mans physicality, mixed with his outstanding technical ability with his back to goal, makes him the perfect player to have the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann running off.

Antoine Griezmann (30 International goals) – Since his arrival at Barcelona at the beginning of last season, Griezmann is yet to live up to his £108 million price tag. Scoring only 9 goals in his 35 La Liga appearances, it isn’t the start that the Frenchman would have hoped for. However, his pure brilliance and raw talent are still unquestionable, and he’s a player that Deschamps has relied on time and time again.

Portugal Top Scorer:

Cristiano Ronaldo (101 International Goals) – Already mentioned once in this report, Ronaldo has become only the second ever player to score over one hundred international goals. Arguably the greatest to ever play the game, his historic impact on football will remain forever. Now with two international trophies to his name, Euro 2016 and Nations League 2019, at thirty-five Ronaldo has no plans to slow down soon.

Match Facts

  • Olivier Giroud has the potential to move to second in Frances all time goalscorer list this weekend. He is currently two goals behind Michel Platini, who sits on forty-one.
  • These two sides have only met twice in the past five years. France winning 1-0 in 2015 and Portugal winning 1-0 in 2016.

Mitchell’s Betting Tips

Cristiano Ronaldo has begun this season in a similar style to every other. Red hot. Juve’s number seven has three goals in two appearances as well as the brace he scored in Portugal’s September fixture against Sweden. Ronaldo anytime goal scorer at 5/2* with Mark Jarvis.

Neither France nor Portugal have failed to score a goal in any of their last 5 games. Get over 1.5 goals at 4/9* with Mark Jarvis.

I believe that the momentum this Portugal side has right now with Ronaldo on a mission to take Daei’s all time scorer record will prove too much for Les Bleus. Despite on paper having the better individuals, key players such as Pogba and Griezmann have really struggled to get going this season. Get Portugal to win at 3/1* with Mark Jarvis.

UFC 253 Main Event: Israel Adesanya (New Zealand) vs Paulo Costa (Brazil)

The saying ‘styles make fights’ gets flung around, but here, it may be the perfect time to use it. Costa’s terrifying aggression, strength, power and ability to turn any fight into a brawl. Up against Adesanya’s precision, movement, footwork, and counter-striking real gives this fight potential to go down as an all-time great.

The Adesanya and Costa rivalry began after UFC 243, following Adesanya’s win against Robert Whittaker to become the Undisputed Middleweight champion. The Last Stylebender took the mic and dared Costa to step into the octagon and fight him. “I got this overly inflated balloon animal, this heavy Ricky martin wannabe – trust me, when im done with his face, he will really look like Ricky Martin. Botched.”

Ever since the two have gone back and forth with Adesanya even accusing Costa of using PEDs as the reason for him being so freakishly athletic. The Brazilian has one of the best physics in UFC history and really looks like a heavyweight fighting at middleweight.

Israel Adesanya (19-0)

Israel Adesanya, otherwise known as the Last Stylebender, had a meteoric 2019. To many the fighter of the year, with great bouts against Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum and finished the year off with his incredible display against Robert Whittaker. Adesanya sits on a professional record of 19-0-0.

Adesanya began as a kickboxer and boxer before moving to mixed martial arts. At 6’4 and with an 80 inch reach, Adesanya’s long lean frame allows him to be quick, awkward and very versatile in the cage. Adesanya constantly switches stances, making it tough to read what he’s going to do.

However, in his most recent fight against a very similar fighter to Paulo Costa in the form of Yoel Romero, Adesanya caught a lot of stick for fighting to passive and slow. Referee Dan Miragliotta having to tell the pair to engage several times. Despite getting the win, it was the first time in Adesanya’s short UFC career that he has received any real backlash or criticism.

Paulo Costa (13-0)

Paulo Costa, otherwise known as the eraser, earned the nickname from doing exactly that. The Brazilian signed with the UFC in 2017 and holds a professional record of 13-0-0. Costa’s incredible knockout power and stand up ability is matched by very few. Costa holds the UFC record for the most strikes landed per minute in the UFC at 8.43. However, volume isn’t the only place where Costa excels. He also averages the third highest significant strike accuracy in middleweight history.

Equipped with a black belt in jiu-jitsu also, Costa’s ground game is often overlooked because of his stand up. But don’t be fooled. His immense size and strength make his ground game and grappling very effective.

Costa’s UFC debut in 2017 was up against Gareth McClellan and lasted a little over a minute. Later in the year, Costa’s breakout performance came up against former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks. Costa made the former champion look like an amateur.

Costa’s most recent fight also came up against Yoel Romero. however the fight could not have gone any more different to Adesanya’s. Neither man held nothing back, and it was a complete dog fight, with Costa winning by unanimous decision. This was the first fight to go the distance in Costa’s professional career.

Fight Facts

  • It is only the second time in UFC history that two male fighters are undefeated coming into a title fight
  • Adesanya has an 8 inch reach advantage over Costa

Mitchell’s Betting Tips

This is a great matchup for Kai “Don’t Blink” Kara-France, who is difficult to pin down and can use his speed and feints to avoid Brandon Rovyal. Kai Kara-France is 4/11* with Mark Jarvis.

Talented kickboxer Dominick Reyes will be extra motivated knowing he can now get his hands on the vacant belt he was so close to earning against Jon Jones. Reyes to win is 1/3*.

Costa throws huge wide punches, leaving lots of space for Adesanya to counter in this UFC 253 Main Event. Get Adesanya to win at 8/15* with Mark Jarvis.

Leicester City vs Arsenal Summary

This EFL Cup third round presents one of only two all top flight clashes as Leicester and Arsenal meet for the first time this season.

Leicester, after a shaky end to last season and eventually missing out on what seemed nearly guaranteed champions league football at Christmas, have kicked things off right with two strong opening games, scoring seven goals respectively. Following the departure of full back Chilwell to Chelsea, Leicester have brought in Timothy Castagne as a hopeful replacement from Champions League Quarter Finalists Atalanta.

North London Club Arsenal had a very strong end to the season, beating Chelsea to lift the FA Cup and have an identity under Arsenal fan favourite Arteta that has been scarce since the departure of Arsene Wenger.

Leicester City Team News and Form

Leicester come into the game off the back of two convincing wins against new boys West Brom on the opening day of the season with a 4-2 thumping of Burnley coming after. Furthermore, at thirty-three Vardy is still playing with the pace and hunger of someone half his age. The striker has two Premier League goals so far following his opening day brace against West Brom.

With the Departure of Ben Chilwell, Rodgers has looked to Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne to bolster up the back line. Following a debut goal, Castagne is off to a good start as life as a part of the Foxes. Castagne loves to get forward and will look to overlap constantly on the attack. Atalanta finished the last Serie A season as top scorers, with Castagne’s offensive threat on the wing being a major reason for their success.

Although defensively he can be sometimes rash and prone to diving in, it will be interesting to see how he adapts to life in a much faster, physical Premier League. On the injury list for Leicester are Benkovic, Morgan and Pereira.

Arsenal Team News and Form

Arteta could not have hoped for a better opening to the season with two wins against Fulham and West Ham. However, perhaps even better news is the contract extension of goal machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese talisman finished second in last season’s golden boot race with twenty-two goals, one behind Wednesdays opponents number nine Jamie Vardy.

Arsenal’s best bit of business in this transfer window so far seems to be Brazilian Centre half Gabriel. The Brazilian defender has soothed into life brilliantly as a Gunner, with a debut goal against Fulham and an excellent display against West Ham in match week two.

After years of mediocre signings in the Arsenal’s back line, could Gabriel finally be the answer to many Arsenal fans’ prayers? On the Injury list for Arsenal are Mustafi, Mari, Guendouzi, Ozil and Martinelli.

Top Goalscorers

Leicester City Top Goalscorers:

  • Jamie Vardy (23 Premier League goals last season) – Jamie Vardy took home last season’s golden boot following a fantastic campaign once again with Leicester. The 33-year-old still relies on his blistering pace and playing off the shoulder to get in behind the defence. Although some may not hold Jamie Vardy to the same standards of other historic Premier league strikers, the Englishmen now has 105 goals to his name. One more than Chelsea legend Didier Drogba (104) in forty-one fewer games. (213 Vs 254)

Arsenal Top Goalscorers:

  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22 Premier League goals last season) – Similar in style to Jamie Vardy, Aubameyang utilises his blistering pace to get in behind a defence. Matched with his clinical finishing, he is a handful for any team in Europe. Aubameyang’s mix of athleticism and his soft touch and technique means he’s just as dangerous off the ball as on. He is perfectly happy to square up a defender and beat him off the dribble. Aubameyang proved as one of the few highlights for Arsenal in what was a somewhat bumpy season for the Gunners.

Match Facts

  • Both teams have began the season with a 100% winning record
  • Brendan Rodgers and Mikel Arteta have only ever met once in their managerial careers with the game ending in a draw
  • Leicester have won three league cups in their history, meanwhile Arsenal only two.

Brighton vs Chelsea Summary

The long wait is finally over and the commencement of a new Premier League season has arrived. Frank Lampard’s first season in charge as the Chelsea manager saw the Blues finish 4th in the Premier League table, securing all important Champions League football.

Furthermore, following a very busy summer transfer window with over £200m spent so far the pressure is on for Lampard’s side to deliver silverware and mount a real title challenge. Meanwhile following a strong run of form to finish the 2019-20 season Brighton clinched survival coming in at 15th in the Premier League table.

Brighton Team News and Form

After surviving their third Premier League season in a row, The Seagulls will look to make it a fourth this year. After finishing 15th in the table for the second time in their three-year stay in the Premier League, it really is survival or bust for Graham Potter’s men.

With the departures of several key players for Brighton in the shape of Aaron Mooy, Shane Duffy and Glenn Murray, Graham Potter will hope that the £20m Frenchman Neal Maupay will carry on his inspired form where he left of at the tail end of the 2019-20 season. Scoring in two of his last three games and his notorious performance in Brightons 2-1 win over Arsenal to kickoff the Premier League restart.

Brighton have been boosted with the additions of ex-Liverpool creative midfielder Adam Lallana signing on a free, two new central defenders in Jan Paul Van Hecke and Joel Veltman, as well as the contract extension of Club captain Lewis Dunk, keeping the 28-year-old at the club until 2025.

Brighton produced no wins in their pair of preseason games. However, they managed a 1-1 draw against opening match day competitors Chelsea, and a 0-0 draw with Premier League returnees West Brom.

Chelsea Team News and Form

Following a first successful season under new manager Frank Lampard, the club and fans finally seem united under the leadership of the Chelsea legend. With ambitions of once again not only conquering England but Europe, the Chelsea hierarchy have spent big showing they are fully backing the boss.

With over £200m being spent so far on transfers, this Chelsea side look to be a genuine force for this upcoming season. The welcomed additions of instinctive goal scorer Timo Werner, as well as the inventive and inspiring flare and ability that record signing Kai Havertz brings to the table. The ceiling is limitless for this team.

From a defensive standpoint, for many this being the primary concern for Chelsea, The experience and maturity of Thiago Silva has been brought in on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain. Then Followed another big money signing, more familiar to Premier League fans in Ben Chilwell from Leicester.

The left back brings in a fresh pace and consistency to the Chelsea back line that both Alonso and Emerson failed to do last season. Chelseas only pre season fixture was the 1-1 draw against Mondays competitors Brighton.

Top Goalscorers

Brighton Top Goalscorers

Neal Maupay (10 Premier league goals) The 24-year-old bagged 10 top flight goals in his first season in the Premier league. With Veteran Glenn Murray leaving the club, Maupay is Brightons only real goalscorer for this upcoming season and the success of the club will lay heavily in the quality of his performances.

Leandro Trossard (5 Premier league goals) The left sided Belgian winger produced 5 goals and 3 assists in last season’s campaign. However, Graham Potter will hope for more this season from the Belgian.

During his time with Genk, Trossard could effect the game from all over the field, dropping deep to get others involved, or beating his opponent off the ball to create space for others. If Trossard can improve on his final ball and finishing, he could have a breakout campaign.

Chelsea Top Goalscorers

Timo Werner (28 Bundesliga goals) Coming off the back of an incredible season with RB Leipzig, Werner secured his Premier League move. With Chelseas number nine spot being rotated between Tammy Abraham and Frenchman Olivier Giroud for most of the season, Werner is the true World class goal scorer that Chelsea missed last year.

Tammy Abraham (15 Premier league goals) With the signing of Timo Werner, it makes for a tricky situation when looking at Abraham. Despite the young English talent scoring 15 Premier League goals last season, towards the back end of the campaign he was often overlooked by Frank Lampard with Olivier Giroud the preferred option.

Although Werner can play on the Left, allowing for Abraham to take the number 9 role, it is hard to see it happening with Mount, Ziyech, Havertz, Barkley and Hudson-Odoi already poised as creative options. I believe a regular starting spot might be hard for Tammy to keep hold of this season.

Match Facts

  • Chilwell, Silva, Ziyech and Gilmour are all out injured for Chelsea, meanwhile Kovacic is suspended from the FA cup final
  • Florin Andone is the only player out injured for Brighton
  • Brighton were 3-0 victors on the opening day of last season, meanwhile Chelsea lost 4-0 to Manchester United.

Mitchell’s Betting Tips

I find it hard to believe that there’s any chance of Chelsea losing this one. Werner and Havertz will chomp at the bit to make a successful start to life as a blue – Chelsea to win at 4/10* with Mark Jarvis.

Brighton have scored just two goals in the previous six meetings against Chelsea – Chelsea to keep a clean sheet at 8/11*

Neal Maupay scored in two of his last three games to end the last Premier League season – Maupay anytime goalscorer is 12/5* with Mark Jarvis.
