Tale of the Tape
A chance to make a statement and become a contender for Carl Frampton as he takes on undefeated American Tyler McCreary at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
The Jackel has had a frustrating year. Frampton was due to fight earlier in the year, however freakishly injured himself in a hotel lobby meaning he pulled out. The defeat against Josh Warrington last year remains his last bout. The Northern Irishman will want to bounce back from that defeat in Manchester and put himself in contention once again. Top Rank have gifted him a very good opponent to test himself in McCreary. The taller, bigger fighter will provide a test for Frampton, but his speed should come into good use once he gets some early round rustiness out the way.
This fight schedules undefeated American Tyler McCreary for his third bout of the year. The 26-year-old has had 17 professional bouts and that good record including victories over the likes of Jessie Cris Rosales last time out. His only draw came in March of this year against Mexican Roberto Castaneda. McCreary has managed seven knockouts with the majority of his victories coming by decision. He sits behind a solid jab in true American style. The Golden Child can cause some trouble early on for Frampton if the Northern Irishman is slow in the early rounds. He could make some eyes turn in the division with a victory here.
Frampton – Northern Ireland, 5 ft 5 in, Orthodox, 32 years-old
McCreary – USA, 5 ft 9 in, Orthodox, 26 years-old
Records / Scorecard:
Carl Frampton 26–2–0 (15 KO)
Tyler McCreary 16–0–1 (7 KO)
These two fighters are meeting for the first time. Frampton has only ever faced one other fighter from the USA, Chris Avalos in 2015. He won that bout in his home nation with a TKO in the fifth.
Tyler McCreary has had over 100 amateur bouts, with this meeting in Las Vegas just set to be his 18th professional fight. He made his pro debut at 21 in 2014, beating Chris Tanner.
McCreary has already fought twice this year against Roberto Castaneda and Jessie Cris Rosales. Frampton is making his boxing debut this calendar year after recovering from injury.
