What time will the event take place and where you can watch it?
Around midnight UK time on Saturday 26th September
Main Event – Jermall Charlo (USA) vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko (Ukraine)
Jermall Charlo (30-0)
Jermall has been WBC interim middleweight champion until 2019 when the governing body elevated him to fully recognised champion. However, he did not need a belt to confirm that he was already among the best middleweights in the world. Jermall moved up from light middleweight to middleweight back in 2017 and has faced a strong and world class fighter like Matt Korobov and Dennis Hogan.
If Jermall gets through the Ukranian, this will create a path for a massive unification bout that he was desperately looking for against Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin or even Demetrius Andrade, but he cannot look past Derevyanchenko at all.
Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-2)
The technician would be Charlo’s toughest opponent in his career. Even though he has an unimpressive record, his amateur career exceeds many fighters for having over 300 bouts before turning professional and has fought for the world twice against Daniel Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin where he lost because of majority decision.
The fight between Golovkin was a controversial one where many stakeholders disagreed with the loss and believed the Ukranian deserved to win. Now he gets another opportunity to win a world title and will give it his all to ruin Charlo’s career path.
Co-main Event – Jermell Charlo (USA) vs Jeison Rosario (Dominican Republic)
Two-time WBC light middleweight champion of the world starts off strong with 2020 by facing the number one ranked WBA and IBF light middleweight champion to identify who can be crowned the king of the division.
Jermell Charlo (33-1)
Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo will be in a legacy defining fight after relinquishing his WBC title. He had lost his belt back 2018 against Tony Harrison, and after much back and forth they agreed in a rematch in 2019 seeking to avenge the loss and grabbed an 11th round TKO. Now he will chase for two further belts and put himself in the number one ranking.
Jeison Rosario (20-1)
The Banana Man from the Dominican Republic will face his toughest challenge to date to prove that he belongs on the big stage. The Dominican started boxing when he was 12 years old and kept improving his skill and toughness to start his professional career after beating all odds to win the unified championship against Julian Williams in his hometown in Philadelphia. Now he receives an opportunity to win the WBC against the “Iron Man”.
Giulio’s Betting Tips
The Jermall-Sergiy bout is a real 50/50 fight. Jermall has fought no one yet at an elite level, and I definitely consider Derevyanchenko elite.
Obviously the American is fighting in his home soil so he would be the favourite, but it would not surprise me if an upset occurs with his high-level amateur experience and experience at a world level. Jermall Charlo to Win is 8/15* with Mark Jarvis. He is 4/1* to win by KO/TKO/DQ/TD.
In terms of the Jermell-Rosario bout, this is going to be an interesting fight to watch as Rosario has not been on the big stage and has not fought the same level of opponents as Charlo.
Ultimately, I believe Jermell will get through the fight in the later rounds, but anything can happen in the ring. Jermell Charlo to Win in Rounds 7-9 is 17/4* with Mark Jarvis.
