Tale of the Tape

The WBC heavyweight title is on the line as reigning champion Deontay Wilder faces challenger Luis Ortiz, this time in at the MGM Arena, Las Vegas.

The Bronze Bomber defeated King Kong last time out in the 10th round after Ortiz had him struggling in the 7th. It disappointed Wilder that coming through the 7th round and getting the win like a true champion was not highlighted enough.

Since that fight, Wilder knocked out Dominic Breazeale in the first round in May of this year. His other fight since the bout with the Cuban heavyweight was against Tyson Fury in December 2018, finishing in a draw. It was the first time the Bronze Bomber had gone a 12 round distance.

Meanwhile, Ortiz has an extra fight under his belt. King Kong has beaten Christian Hammer, Travis Kauffman, and Răzvan Cojanu. The latter reached a decision against King Kong, making him only the third boxer to do so.

Wilder – USA, 6 ft 7 in (2.01m), Orthodox, 34 years-old

Ortiz – Cuba, 6 ft 4 in (1.93m), Southpaw, 40 years-old

Deontay Wilder (1/6* to Win)

Luis Ortiz (9/2* to Win)

Records / Scorecard:

Deontay Wilder 41–0–1 (40 KO)

Luis Ortiz 31–1, 2 NC (26 KO)

Wilder beat Ortiz by TKO in the 10th round last time. This is King Kong’s only professional defeat. Wilder is still unbeaten, with Tyson Fury the only fighter he did not beat.

The scorecards in the last fight, at stoppage, had Wilder ahead 85-84 by all three judges.
