Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt

“This is the second week in a row in which the chasers will play before the leaders. Bayern go into this game already knowing the outcome of Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund’s games. A four point gap and better goal difference provides some cushion for the champions if they miraculously drop points here. Frankfurt’s time away has not helped them at all as Monchengladbach blew them away and the same is likely to happen here.”

A statement win for Bayern?

Despite returning to Bundesliga action in winning ways last weekend, Bayern are not over the finishing line. A title race is still on with Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach also winning on their returns. A four point gap and a better goal difference is still a solid cushion for the seven-in-a-row Bundesliga champions, however.

Robert Lewandowski got on the scoresheet last time out and will love the prospect of facing a very underwhelming Eintracht. The opponents did however put five past Bayern in the reverse fixture. Munich have won 69% of league games this season and have not lost since December. Another win closer to sealing yet another title looks fairly inevitable, it could just be a case of how many.

Relegation a genuine prospect for confidence-shot Frankfurt

To be 2-0 down with eight minutes played shows a lot about where Frankfurt are at right now. The Europa League Semi Finalists from last season have been in free fall since the turn of the year. That is now four defeats in a row for Adolf Hutter’s side who now sit in 13th, five points above the relegation play-off.

Andre Silva rescued a goal in the second half, but slow starts continue to cost them. Eintracht have only scored first in nine of their 26 Bundesliga games this season. In fact, 27% of goals scored or conceded come in the last 15 minutes of a game. All three teams directly below them, including rivals Mainz, play the following day and could close the gap.
