Thoughts on Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt
It’s a repeat of the clash at the Allianz just a few games ago in Matchweek 27 of the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich host Eintracht Frankfurt once again, this time in the DFB Pokal Semi Final and there is no reason to not expect goals again. The two sides met in the Final back in 2017/18, with Frankfurt pulling off a 3-1 victory over the Bavarians. However, the german giants are a new monster under Hanse Flick, and look unbeatable. The 19-time Pokal winners are clear favourites to make it 20 this year, and it will take some stopping them. But Eintracht have experience beating them before and know what it takes to earn a spot at the Olympiastadion for the Final.
Can anyone stop this Bayern side?
It has been business as usual for the giants of Germany. A perfect record since the return, Hansi Flick’s side have now won their last 11 in all competitions. That includes a crucial victory over Borussia Dortmund and a Champions League away win at Chelsea. FCB are edging closer to another Bundesliga title and could collect more silverware elsewhere.
The hosts have defeated Cottbus, Bochum, Hoffenheim, and most recently Schalke to get here. They have scored seven goals scored, however have conceded five goals along their cup journey. They have scored 75% of their first half goals between 31-45 in the competition. Bayern have also scored in this period in their last five Bundesliga matches.
Frankfurt to take advantage of set-pieces again?
Just when things were looking up again, Frankfurt suffered another home defeat last time out. There inconsistent and ultimately disappointing season could see a late revival if they were to repeat the feat of beating Bayern. When they faced the reigning DFB Pokal Champions away last time, they secured two quick-fire goals in the second half.
Those goals pushed defender Martin Hinteregger to the top of their goal-scoring charts, an embarrassing look for their strikers. He will have to do an incredible job at the other end of the pitch though if Frankfurt have any chance. In the cup, the visitors have scored the most goals of any team so far with 12. However, they have kept just 25% clean sheets in the competition.
