Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Monchengladbach

“Heavy defeats for Eintracht before the break saw them fall down the table in what has been an inconsistent season of highs and lows. On their day, they can put any side to the sword, having cost some reputable managers their jobs this season, but have struggled since the turn of the year. Monchengladbach are enjoying a fine season under Marco Rose and have dusted themselves down after a close defeat to Dortmund. They are excellent on the road, and could edge this tight affair.”

A disjointed season so far for Eintracht

Expectations of Frankfurt rose last summer as the side made a statement with a strong run to the Europa League Semi Finals. However, their three stars from last season Luka Jovic, Sebastian Haller, and Ante Rebic moved away and left a void which the side has struggled to cope with at times. They famously put five past Bayern in November, a result that cost Munich boss Niko Kovac his job. Unai Emery also lost his job as Arsenal manager after Frankfurt claimed a 2-1 victory at the Emirates.

Since then however, they have managed just three league wins and went seven games without a win during the festive period. The goals have struggled to come from the attackers or midfielders, with Austrian centre back Martin Hinteregger the second highest scorer for the club this season with six. A strong cup run has kept their season alive, with a Semi Final coming in June. Relegation looks unlikely, but the quicker they can move away from the bottom half, the more time they can focus on winning some silverware in the DFB-Pokal.

Top Four or More for The Foals

What a season it has been for Marco Rose’s side, who are still in and around the race for the title. They currently sit on 49 points, six behind leaders Bayern Munich having held top spot earlier in the season after a blistering start to their campaign. Defensively sound and dangerous in attack, Gladbach have a strong spine that has helped beat the likes of Roma in the Europa League and Bayern in front of their home crowd.

They have only failed to score in five league games and have scored 61% of their goals in the second half, particularly late on (29% after 76′). Exciting French pair Marcus Thuram and Alassane Pléa have helped The Foals net 49 goals this season. Former Dortmund centre half Matthias Ginter has been at the heart of a solid defence, and Denis Zakaria is another powerful talent in the squad. He is the only absentee as Gladbach set to hold off pressure from Bayer Leverkusen and at least secure Top 4, and maybe more.

Betting tip – Second Half Result Monchengladbach (8/5* with Mark Jarvis)
