Who? Manchester City vs Atalanta in Group C of the UEFA Champions League Matchweek 3 Group Stages (Live on BT Sport)
Where? Etihad Stadium, Manchester
When? 20:00 GMT, Tuesday 22nd October 2019
Matchweek 3 of the UEFA Champions League sees last season’s Quarter-Finalists Manchester City host debutants Atalanta in Group C at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City are two for two so far in the tournament and have yet to concede. A 3-0 away win in Ukraine against Shakhtar Donetsk and a 2-0 home victory against Dinamo Zagreb means maximum points for Pep Guardiola’s side. Phil Foden got his first ever Champions League goal last time out, whilst defensively City have been solid despite missing multiple defenders including Aymeric Laporte and John Stones.
For Atalanta, it has been a very difficult start to life in the Champions League. Back-to-back defeats and just one goal scored means their hopes of progressing are already looking near impossible. The 4-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb was followed up by another disappointing defeat at home to Shakhtar 2-1. This has not affected their league form however, as they sit 3rd with five wins in eight games.
Manchester City (1/6* to Win): Pep Guardiola should have Nicolas Otamendi available again after injury ruled the Argentine out against Crystal Palace. City had to play two defensive midfielders at centre back in that league game. However, John Stones and Kyle Walker are also available for selection. We think Phil Foden will feature at some point for the hosts.
Atalanta (14/1* to Win): Gian Piero Gasperini
In 113 meetings since 1903, Arsenal have the edge with 48 wins and 26 draws, with Sheffield United recording 39 wins. These two sides have never met before in any competitions.
This will be the fifth Italian side that Manchester City have met in European competitions. City have recorded wins over the previous four including both Milan, Napoli, Juventus and Roma.
Atalanta last played in England in 2017/18 when they smashed Everton 5-1 at Goodison Park in the Europa League and also won the reverse fixture in Lombardy.
