Manchester City vs Shakhtar Donetsk
Who? Manchester City vs Shakhtar Donetsk in Group C of Matchweek 5 of the UEFA Champions League 2019/20.
Where? Etihad Stadium, Manchester
When? 20:00 GMT, Tuesday 26th November 2019
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will secure qualification and first place in the group with a win in Group C against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium.
Chasing the leaders Liverpool is becoming a bigger task game by game for City. They are nine points off the top and sat in third after a narrow 2-1 win against Chelsea. It still means that Pep’s side will need to be near faultless until the start of May in the league. In the Champions League, the rather easier group draw meant The Citizens were clear favourites to top the group. City have only dropped points against Atalanta having gone to ten-men and playing Kyle Walker in goal. The hosts have a strong record against their opponents, however lost 2-1 in Ukraine back in 2017.
For the Ukrainian outfit, Donetsk are looking to win their fourth consecutive Ukrainian Premier League in a row. They have let to lose this season, and have a similar record to that of City’s title rivals Liverpool, drawing just one match and winning the others. In the Champions League, Shakhtar completed in a crazy comeback last time out. Entering extra time at 3-1 down, the ten-men managed a 93rd minute and 98th minute penalty to rescue a 3-3 draw against Dinamo Zagreb.
That result means both sides are on five points and are fighting for a second place spot. If The Miners cannot get a result in England, they will hope Atalanta can stop Zagreb. That would set up a final Matchweek showdown for the final qualification spot in the group.
Manchester City (2/11* to Win): The hosts are without Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leroy Sane because of injuries. A red card against Atalanta suspends Claudio Bravo. However, Ederson is fit and Scott Carson will occupy the bench.
Shakhtar Donetsk (14/1* to Win): The away side will be without winger Marlos because of suspension. The Brazilian picked up a red card in the crazy game with Dinamo Zagreb last time out in the Champions League.
