Who? South Africa vs England in the first Test of a Four-Match Test Series in Tauranga and Hamilton

Where? SuperSport Park, Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa

When? From 08:00 GMT, Thursday 26th December 2019 (Live on Sky Sports Cricket)

Overview

The First Test of a Four-Match Test Series between South Africa and England begins at SuperSport Park in Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa.

The Proteas have a great record at this venue, with just two defeats in 24 matches, including five straight Test wins. Unfortunately for them, they carry some poor form into this Test. They lost twice to Sri Lanka and three times to India and could really do with an upturn in form to end the year on a good note. Veteran bowler Vernon Philander has announced that he will be retiring after this four-Test series with England. He has taken 261 wickets in 97 matches since his debut in 2011.

The poor recent form has seen the Three Lions win just one in their last six matches. The T20 clash with New Zealand ended with two wins and a draw a piece. However, the two-Test matches following shortly after saw England lose by an Innings and 65 runs in the first Test. A stomach bug in the England camp does not help with prepartion for this, but they could benefit from limited bowling firepower outside of South Africa’s Kasigo Rabada. England could beat South Africa three times in a row in Test cricket for the first time since 1960.
