MK Dons vs Liverpool – EFL Cup Tips

MK Dons vs Liverpool

Who? MK Dons vs Liverpool in the English EFL Cup (Live on Sky Sports)

Where? Stadium MK, Milton Keynes

When? 19:45 GMT, Wednesday 25th September 2019

Overview:

European Champions Liverpool will head to League One team MK Dons in the second day of Third Round ties in the English EFL Cup at Stadium MK.

MK Dons sit in 15th in League One as they have struggled to keep consistency with results. Four wins out of nine games sees them on 12 points as they have lost the over five games, including the latest two home games. The MK defence will need to be at its best to halt the Liverpool attacking power.

Service has resumed for the Reds after a tough pre-season. Liverpool are the only team to maintain a 100% record in all four leagues in England. They have just come through a difficult test against Chelsea having held on for a 2-1 win. We expect Jürgen Klopp to rotate his side, however, keeping the team fresh for Sheffield United on Saturday.

Team News:

MK Dons – Paul Tisdale will be without Rhys Healey, former Bournemouth defender Bailly Cargill whilst Jordan Moore-Taylor and Ben Reeves have resumed training but are doubts.

Liverpool – Jürgen Klopp is likely to name a youthful side including Rhian Brewster and new signings Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg. Naby Keita expected to return from injury, whilst goalkeeper Alisson Becker is still out. We will expect Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri to start.

Key Players:

MK Dons – Sam Nombe

They will need the young striker to step up in the absence of Rhys Healey in the frontline for MK Dons. He has netted two times so far in five games this season. However, he will have never faced a defensive line quite like Liverpool’s before.

Liverpool – Xherdan Shaqiri

The stocky Swiss winger will no doubt be frustrated at the lack of game time in the Premier League. Having not travelled to join Switzerland but gain fitness with Liverpool during the international break, he should be raring to go out and impress against a lesser opposition in MK Dons.

Head-To-Head:

These sides have never faced each other now that MK Dons is the newly formed club from Wimbledon. During Wimbledon’s time in the Premier League with Liverpool, the last game they played was in the 1999/2000 season and Liverpool won both games that season 2-1 away and at home 3-1.
