Rangers vs Porto
Who? Rangers vs Porto in Group G of Matchweek 4 of the UEFA Europa League 2019/20
Where? Ibrox, Glasgow
When? 20:00 GMT, Thursday 7th November 2019
Matchweek 4 of the UEFA Europa League sees Champions League Quarter-Finalists Porto visit Glasgow to face Rangers in Group G at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are going strong in the league this season. They are closing the gap on the dominance of Celtic in the league and sit level on points with their rivals after 11 games. In the Europa League, the Glaswegians also sit level with their opponents tonight, just ahead on goal difference. With top of the group Young Boys having to travel away for a result at Feyenoord, Rangers can close the two point gap and cement one foot into the next round.
For Porto, their league form is very strong, similar to Rangers. Both sides are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions. Porto have not lost a league game since early August, and a win against Aves last time out extends their unbeaten streak to nine games. Not only are they winning games, but the Dragons are shutting out a lot of games with strong defensive performances. The recruitment of Pepe and Ivan Marcano have been rewarding for the side currently 2nd in the Portuguese league.
Rangers (6/4* to Win): Rangers are without winger Jordan Jones. The Northern Irishman is out with a knee injury. The team cast fitness doubts over Brandon Barker and Ryan Kent. We expect the in-form Alfredo Morelos to lead the Rangers front line.
Porto (15/8* to Win): Porto are missing some key personnel ahead of this clash. Mali striker and Porto’s main striker Moussa Marega is sidelined with illness. Midfielder Sergio Oliveira is out with a muscle injury. We expect summer signing Ze Luis to start up front for the Portuguese outfit.
Porto could not get the better of Rangers in their last three meetings. The earlier clash in October finished in a 1-1 draw thanks to an Alfredo Morelos goal. Back in 2005, Rangers got the same result in Portugal after beating the reigning Champions League champions at Ibrox 3-2.
