PSG vs Real Madrid – UCL Tips

Who? – Paris Saint Germain vs Real Madrid

Where? – Parc Des Princes, Paris

When? – 20:00 GMT, Wednesday 18th September, 2019

PSG host Real Madrid in Group A of the first game of the UEFA Champions League group stages this season in a ego-filled and stylish fixture at the Parc Des Princes.

The French champions have a great chance to take an important three points away from rivals in the group Real Madrid as both sides will be expected to overcome challenges from underdogs Club Brugge and Galatasaray and finish top of the group rather than second place.

After last season’s disappointment and turmoil, it seems some order has been restored with Real Madrid spending big in the transfer window and but have still started the season not in spectacular fashion.

Team News:

PSG – Neymar is suspended still from last season, whilst Kylian Mbappe has been in light training but may not be able to start up front for the hosts and Edinson Cavani will be unavailable alongside doubtful Thilo Kehrer and Julian Draxler with foot injuries.

Real Madrid – Eden Hazard has not been deemed fully fit to feature for Zidane’s side, whilst Isco, Marcelo, Luka Modric and Federico Valverde are all ruled out for the game leaving Madrid a little short in experience.

Form:

Service has resumed in terms of results for PSG as they have picked up four wins from five games and kept three clean sheets however there is turmoil around the situation with starman Neymar as he was booed when introduced to their latest game returning from injury against Strasbourg even though he scored the winning goal in spectacular fashion.

Two wins, two draws and two sendings off in a rather strange opening four games for Real Madrid as Gareth Bale is now very much back in the team again alongside James Rodríguez and whilst Karim Benzema is in good form, the defense is yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Key Players:

PSG – Mauro Icardi

The new signing from Inter Milan will be expected to feature for PSG with the injuries in attack and with his impressive goal scoring record, could make a strong case to maintain his place going forward if he can score against an opponent he was also heavily linked with.

Real Madrid – James Rodríguez

The reborn Colombian playmaker, who surprisingly was not sold once his two-year loan deal ended at Bayern Munich, has now had a U-turn in his career at Real Madrid and with injuries in the midfield area, is expected to start and potentially shine as a creative spark in a solid midfield line up alongside Casemiro and Toni Kroos.

Head-To-Head:

These sides last met in 2018 when a Round of 16 tie clashed the two sides together with Real Madrid coming out on top with a 5-2 aggregate win having managed to win both games 3-1 at home and 2-1 away in Paris.

Tip:

A rather tough one to call considering the form and the key injuries to both sides meaning there could be a lack of creative spark in the final third so it could go down to who creates the better chances for Karim Benzema and Mauro Icardi.
