Sam’s Betting Tips – Arnold Palmer Invitational 2020

“The Arnold Palmer provides another tough test for players in the second week of Florida Swings. Defending champion Francesco Molinari has been out of form since his collapse at the Masters last year, whilst 2018 winner Rory McIlroy is the favourite to lift the trophy wearing the famous red cardigan. However, Swedish Henrik Stenson, who lives on the doorstep of this course, has had four Top 5 finishes in the last six years at Bay Hill and is worth backing each way at 40/1 as long as the officials stay quiet.”

  • Henrik Stenson – 40/1* Outright

Course History – Arnold Palmer Invitational 2020

Dick Wilson and Bob Wilson originally designed and built the course in the 1960s. Arnold Palmer became the owner of the Orlando-based course in 1974 until his death in 2016. The PGA have hosted the Arnold Palmer Invitational every year since 1979. With the fast, risk-and-reward course design and field of players competing, this is one of the more appealing non-major tournaments on the Tour.

The course is 7,454 yards in length with a par 72 full of water hazards, meaning an advantage for big-hitting players. However, the tweaks in the positions of the bunkers and operating through dog leg holes means accuracy and tidiness are key to getting around this course with a solid score.

Podium Picks (Each way Price 1/4 on Top 5)

Rory McIlroy (5/1* Outright) The Northen Irishman and current World No. 1 has recorded Top 5 finishes in every tournament he has featured this season. He won a playoff to become the WGC-HSBC Champions champion against Xander Schauffele in November. He won here in 2018 by 3 shots over Bryson DeChambeau, scoring -18 thanks to shooting 64 in final round.

Tommy Fleetwood (14/1* Outright) – Fleetwood was very close to winning last week in the Honda Classic, however fell short and settled for 3rd. Before that, he managed a Top 20 in the WGC Mexico. This could be his time to show the mental strength needed to overcome last weeks disappointment and hold his own.
