A return to UK & Irish horse racing might not be too far away. We provide a timeline of scheduled behind-closed-doors race meetings potentially returning from next month.
When is horse racing returning to the UK & Ireland?
June is the month that horse racing in the UK will look to return. On June 1st, an all-weather meeting at Newcastle with eight races could be the first action back. BHA suspended racing on March 18th in the UK and the HRI on March 24th in Ireland. Days prior to the suspension, the Cheltenham Festival controversially went ahead. Over 250,000 total spectators congregated in the stands across the four days. For several weeks, the BHA and HRI have been planning in line with the government. Racing can only resume safely and with the government’s approval.

What are the biggest meetings scheduled for next month?
The 2000 and 1000 Guineas at Newmarket prelude five days of racing behind-closed-doors at Royal Ascot. The festival of racing from Berkshire has added more races to the schedule. This exciting news means there will be 36 races from Tuesday 16th June to Saturday 20th June, with eight races on the ultimate day.
