Scotland vs Kazakhstan

Who? Scotland vs Kazakhstan in Matchday 10 of Group I of Euro 2020 Qualification

Where? Hampden Park, Glasgow

When? 19:45 GMT, Tuesday 19th November 2019 (Live on Sky Sports)

Overview

A final turnout in the calendar year sees Scotland try to avenge a humiliating defeat against Kazakhstan in the last group match of Euro 2020 Qualification.

Scotland were on a four game losing streak. However, back-to-back wins against San Marino and Cyprus. Steve Clarke’s testing time in charge of the Scots seemed to start in the reverse fixture of this tie, which began the qualification campaign Matchday 1. Kazakhstan won 3-0 as it felt Scottish football hit a new low. Just the two goals against San Marino and a narrow home win over Cyprus followed, which saw Oliver Burke come to the rescue in the 89th minute. After that, Belgium and Russia showed they are the top two sides in the group beating Scotland both home and away fairly convincingly and deservedly. Scotland have a play-off game to work towards in March next year should they finish third. However, they will need to win to confirm 3rd place.

For Kazakhstan, they might only need a point to secure third point in this game against Scotland. Cyprus are also in with a shout to take third place, however, they are facing Belgium away. It would take an almighty effort to stop the Belgians and therefore, it is likely a one match shootout between Scotland and Kazakhstan for the third place in the group. Aside from the win over Scotland in Matchday 1, the Hawks have not pulled up any surprises in the group. They have beaten minnows San Marino twice and picked up a point away to Cyprus. The defeats have not been comfortable for their opponents of late though. Belgium only won 2-0 whilst Russia could only put one past the Kazakh defence. Unfortunately, the away record is abysmal for the visitors, winning one of their last 12 competitive away matches.
