Thoughts on Sevilla FC vs Real Betis

Spanish La Liga is returning and with it another portion of thrill. Sevilla now sitting in 3rd place has been doing wonders this season with Julen Lopetegui in charge. On the other hand, Real Betis since qualifying to Europa League after 17/18 season has been slowly regressing with them finishing in 10th place and now sitting in 12th. Moreover, the club tends to be short-tempered with managers. The Green-and-Whites has hired seven of them in only four years. With Joan Francesc Ferrer now in charge the team will try their best to show their quality after a long break. I expect to see both sides sweat blood to win in this one.

Sevilla can’t afford a loss

With just only two points difference from the 6th Atletico Madrid, the famous Los Palanganas will have to do everything they can to qualify to next season’s Champions League. The last time they played in the European Cup was in 16/17 season when they lost in Round of 16 to Premier League champions Leicester City.

Sevilla is one of the most constant teams in the league as their home (1.77) and away (1.71) PPG is nearly the same which makes them a tremendous threat when playing as visitors. However, when playing at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium they are the 9th most scoring team in the league by averaging 1.46 goals per game. The team lost only twice at home when playing against top club Real Madrid or currently 8th Villareal. Sevilla have proved severally their efficiency in front of goal as they missed to score in only two out of 27 matches this season.

Real Betis yet again with another draw?

The Green-and-Whites are a mid-table team this season with eight points separating them from 18th RCD Mallorca and 12 from 6th Atletico Madrid. The things seemed to turn around for Betis as they shockingly defeated 2-1 Real Madrid just before the league’s suspension. The loss has affected massively Los Blancos as they moved from the 1st to 2nd place in the table.

The statistics don’t look so good for Real Betis. The team is significantly performing worse away than at home with a very low 0.69 PPG. They have won only one match when playing as visitors. Moreover, they are averaging only 0.85 away goals per game which is one of the lowest in the league. Team’s latest form proves their tendency to share the points with the opposition. They have drawn four times in the last five away matches.
