American Mega Millions – Introducing the World’s Biggest Global Lottery

Back in 1996, a brand new lotto called ‘The Big Game’ launched stateside. A multi-jurisdictional lottery available in six states around this time, it quickly captured the imagination of players and has since grown into an international behemoth.

Now known as Mega Millions and available in 44 different states, it’s commonly recognised as the biggest lottery game in the world and one that has also delivered the second-largest payout in lotto history!

We’ll have a little more on this below, along with the basics of the game and your chances of winning as an earnest punter! So, why not let Mark Jarvis guide you through the American Mega Millions draw in your pursuit of the biggest prize!

Our Mega Millions FAQ – Immerse Yourself in the World’s Most Thrilling Lottery!

Be Honest – What are My Chances of Winning the Mega Millions Jackpot?

In purely statistical terms, your chances of winning the coveted Mega Millions jackpot aren’t particularly great!

In fact, it has become even harder to land the top prize since October 2017. The organisers adjusted the game’s rules to ensure that jackpots are markedly larger but paid out on a less frequent basis.

Prior to this date, your chances of winning the jackpot were around one in 258,890,850. Now, they’re estimated at a prohibitive one in 302,757,350, which is hardly music to the ears of casual punters!

How does the Mega Millions game work?

They draw the Mega Millions’ winning numbers from two drums, one containing 70 balls and another featuring 25 balls. To take part, you must select five digits between one and 70 and an additional number between one and 25. This additional number is the Mega Ball, and you need to match all six to claim the rolling jackpot.

Most states also offer a ‘Megaplier’ option. This is where you pay £1 per ticket to multiply any prize that you may win (other than the jackpot) by two, three, four or five.

They draw the value of the Megaplier at random. However, paying for this will increase your stake to £3 per single ticket.

Am I Eligible to Play Mega Millions in the UK?

You sure are, with Mark Jarvis one of several UK-based platforms that offer you direct access to the Mega Millions draw.

Through our site, you can select your six numbers and the precise number of betting lines that you wish to activate. You can also trigger the Megaplier if you’re willing to increase your stake!

What’s the Biggest Prize Ever Won Through the Mega Millions Jackpot?

Each Mega Millions jackpot starts at an estimated $40 million (£31,103,400). It increases by around $5 million (£3.8 million) for every draw that doesn’t produce a winner!

This, coupled with the rule changes that have sought to prioritise the size of each jackpot over the frequency of payouts, has created several record-breaking prizes over nine figures!

Incredibly, the largest-ever Mega Millions jackpot was a staggering $1.537 billion (£1.195 billion). A single ticket holder won this in South Carolina. This is the second-largest lottery payout of all time, and it’s not a sum of money to sniff at!

When is the Mega Millions Jackpot Drawn?

They draw Mega-Millions winners every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 pm.  You’re able to buy tickets or take part online up to 15 minutes before the draw.

Just remember, it can cost a maximum of £3 per line if you trigger the Megaplier. You must tailor your spend with how much you can afford to lose!
