Thoughts on Arsenal vs Leicester City
It’s a gigantic game for Arsenal and even bigger for Leicester City. Slowly climbing up the ladder The Gunners are facing Champions League aspirant Leicester City who will not give up their 3rd place that easy. The hosts are sitting in 7th with 49 points to their name. Mission Europa League is not that deluded of an idea for Arsenal if they keep up with the current surprising form. Leicester City, on the other hand, are the ones who don’t want to be excluded from the European Cups with them sitting in 3rd with 58 points so far.
It’s Leicester who won three out of last five games played between both sides and it’s fair to say they are the ones better looking on the paper. Brendan Rodgers has done wonders, nobody was expecting, with the team this season. Arteta, on the other hand, is fresh in the business, with years of knowledge under Guardiola. The Gunners’ form, however, speaks for itself with them consecutively winning every game since 25th June. This is one of the tough ones to call, with both sides having something to offer and fight for.
Another clean sheet for Arsenal?
It’s time to shine for Arsenal. After a horrible double game week performance in the Premier League return, the team has won every single game and hasn’t lost a single goal. Change of formation from four to three defenders at the back and Emiliano Martinez filling better than expected a gap in goal after Bernd Leno’s unfortunate injury has been fundamental in Arteta’s squad revolution. However, the very much praised win streak could be over soon.
It’s test time for Arsenal as the team, besides Leicester, will be also facing Spurs, Liverpool or Man City in the following two weeks. The Gunners love performing on Emirates Stadium. They have scored approximately 61% of the goals at home by also averaging not too shabby 1.81 PPG compared to 1.18 PPG away. Since Premier League return the team has been balancing on 1.8 goals scored per game which is above their 1.48 average so far.
It’s fair to say most fans have ruled out any possibility for success with all the injuries being the club’s ball and chain since Premier League return. The Gunners very much proved everyone wrong and they should not be by any chance underestimated by the opposition.
Goodbye 3rd place?
2020 isn’t Leicester’s very best season by a mile. The club has won only four league games out of 14 played that time. The fixtures don’t look too good for The Foxes either. They will face Spurs and Man United in the next four weeks until the end of the season. As a team aspiring for Champions League, they should not let Arsenal humiliate them on their own turf. A win in this one would be the best-case scenario for Leicester with them sitting in 3rd with only one point separating them from Lampard’s Chelsea.
Team, despite averaging lower 1.50 PPG away compared to 2.00 at home, is evenly efficient when hosting or guesting a game. Moreover, The Foxes are third-best offensive and second-best defensive team in the league with 63 goals scored and only 31 conceded in 33 games played so far. Their recent 1-2-1 record could have been better given that they were facing teams from the lower part of the table.
