Man Utd vs Chelsea Summary
Football is a funny old game, in a week Manchester United have gone from a team lost and in desperate need of three points to one full of confidence. United will go into this game feeling like they have found their feet, ready to pounce on a Chelsea side who are still yet to reach top gear with their squad of new signings. Still yet to get a home win this season in seven games in all competitions, the Red Devils can not afford to stretch this to eight if they look to secure a top four finish this season.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will know his team’s clumsiness and lack of killer instinct so far this season. Managing just six shots in their midweek game against Sevilla and throwing away a lead not once but twice against Southampton. The Chelsea camp will excuse this with the suggestion that with so many new signings it will take time for them to reach their best. However, with a shaky start to the season, there is only so much time these excuses will be accepted if their form does not pick up soon.
Man Utd Team News and Form
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have had a real mixed bag of performances so far this season. Shocking against Spurs, Crystal Palace, and Brighton. However, the Manchester club have looked considerably better in their last two, growing into the game against Newcastle coming out with an impressive 4-1 win. Alongside this they also came away with a hard fought and deserved win against Champions League 2020 finalists PSG on Tuesday.
One thing that will cast a shadow of doubt over United’s team on Saturday is that several key players may well be missing. Anthony Martial remains suspended after his physical altercation with Erik Lamela against Spurs, but joining him may be other goal threats: Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani. Whilst neither are guaranteed to miss out on Saturday, both missed United’s mid week trip to Paris through injury and it is not clear whether they will end up making an appearance against Chelsea.
Injury woes for Man Utd are not just limited to attackers, as they confirmed that Eric Bailly will be out for up to a month. This is after unfortunately picking up another injury, something that has plagued him throughout his career. Club captain Harry Maguire looks set to miss Saturday’s game also, unless he can pass a late fitness test. One thing that should put United fans’ minds to rest though is that this could mean a first Premier League appearance this season for Axel Tuanzebe after his top showing mid week.
There is also the possibility for a first Premier League appearance for Alex Telles after making his debut against PSG for Man Utd.
Chelsea Team News and Form
For the first time all season Chelsea will be stocked with a full strength squad, posing an interesting dilemma for manager Frank Lampard. Whilst the Englishman spent big in the summer (clocking in at around £220 million) we have yet to see the best from his team yet. Whilst some names look like guaranteed starters, it is the midfield that is particularly tough to predict. New signing from Ajax Hakim Ziyech whilst not injured may not yet be match fit, having only played 46 minutes so far this season. It is likely then Lampard will instead settle on a different selection than the man from Morocco.
There will be much attention paid to who starts in goal for Chelsea. So far this season Lampard has alternated between three different names with Kepa, Mendy and Caballero, all getting starts in the Prem this season with just five games gone. Whilst Kepa has been the most frequent choice of these three, starting three games. In every one of those games, he has committed an error leading to a goal. With the deadly attacking options in the United team, whether Frank can take the risk of giving Kepa his fourth start is worth thinking about.

Man Utd Top Scorers
Bruno Fernandes (4 Goals in all competitions) – Scoring three of his four goals from the penalty spot the Portuguese man, picked up his first goal from open play against Newcastle in their most recent Premier League game. That goal was scored after missing a penalty earlier in the game, showing his head does not drop when the going gets tough.
Marcus Rashford (3 Goals in all competitions) – The United striker will look to grab another goal in the Premier League after scoring the winner against PSG in midweek. Being the main striker down the centre from the start, in the absence of the suspended Anthony Martial, could provide him with more chance to add more goals to his name.
Chelsea Top Scorers
Kai Havertz (4 Goals in all competitions) – So far the German international has looked the best of Chelsea’s summer signings. With 4 goals so far this season, only one has come in the Prem, so he will look to get those numbers up.
Timo Werner (3 Goals in all competitions) – Whilst still trying to settle in the Chelsea squad, if Werner’s showing against Southampton is anything to go by he will be in suitable form to grab a few goals.
- All seven Man Utd games this season have had over 2.5 goals
- Chelsea are without a clean sheet in their last seven meetings with Manchester United
- Manchester United have picked up the most points from behind in the Prem since the start of 2020

Jozef’s Betting Tips
Marcus Rashford will play full of confidence, and if there is one thing Marcus Rashford loves, it’s a goal against Chelsea. The Englishman has scored three in his last three games against Chelsea. Playing down the middle, with the supply from Bruno Fernandes, I see this pattern continuing.
Man Utd have been the first to score in five of their last six games against Chelsea and have picked up the most points from losing positions of any team in the Premier League in 2020. Man Utd have scored in both halves in four of their last five games in all competitions.
Both sides have deadly attackers amongst their ranks, so goals seem a guarantee. However, with Chelsea unbeaten in three, I don’t see that ending just yet. On top of this, four of Chelsea’s last five games have ended in a draw after 90 minutes.
