Overview

Saturday Night Football does not get much better in terms of potential entertainment as the Premier League champions Manchester City host in-form Chelsea.

Manchester City

City are arguably facing their toughest task in the Pep Guardiola era. Having lost 3-1 to Liverpool in the last Premier League match, City now sits in 4th place and nine points behind the Reds. It was their third league defeat of the season already, having lost to Wolves at home and Norwich City away. It is still only November, but the Spanish mastermind coach will probably have to see out a faultless season from here on out. That is if they want to have any chance of overtaking the Merseyside club and claim three Premier League titles in a row.

Prior to the defeat at Liverpool, City were unbeaten in six games in all competitions. This is a great opportunity to put the Liverpool game behind them and jump ahead of Chelsea. Depending on early results in the day, the Citizens could come into this game 12 points behind Liverpool and four points behind second place Leicester City. However, if both do not win, it could open the table up once again for City to leapfrog their way closer to the leaders with a win.

Chelsea

For Chelsea, the strong start to the season has continued into November as Frank Lampard continues to play his young side. Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have deservedly earned call ups to the England team alongside Fikayo Tomori. The central defender, born in Canada, made his England debut in their away match against Kosovo. The balance in the midfield has been impressive. Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are key to this Chelsea team, with the two signings during the Maurizio Sarri era working well.

The return of N’Golo Kante is a great plus for Frank Lampard. The Chelsea manager and legend at the club has overseen remarkable form in the Premier League this season. Seven wins in their last eight league games is form of title contenders. Nearly everyone felt they would not challenge this year, mainly because of his inexperience and the current transfer ban in place. However, a win here would really make a statement of intent and you cannot rule it out between the two high-scoring sides.

Team News

Manchester City (4/9* to Win): Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva will serve a one-match suspension. That could mean a chance for Riyad Mahrez to impress in a big Premier League clash. Ederson will return to the goalkeeping spot in the side. Long-term absentees Leroy Sane Aymeric Laporte will probably not feature until next year.

Chelsea (11/2* to Win): Jose Mourinho will be without long-term absentee Hugo Lloris, as both teams are missing their first choice goalkeepers for this match. There are also doubts over the sharpness of Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen for this match. We expect Mourinho to play a similar line-up to their last match against Sheffield United.
