Premier League Matchweek Manager of the Week – Carlo Ancelotti
It is the Italian’s first full season as an Everton manager and it is fair to say the things couldn’t start any better. Midfield upgrades of Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez has given us an overall impression of a different team with a much bigger offensive threat than the last season. The game against Spurs has finished as a modest 1-0 win; with more luck in the execution from Richarlison and others, we could’ve seen easily a 2-0 victory.
Premier League Matchweek Player of the Week – Mohamed Salah
For some one-season wonder, for others one of the best in Europe, Mohamed Salah has scored his third Premier League hat-trick since joining Liverpool in 2017/18 season. The Egyptian’s first goal came from a penalty which he very well executed by sending a powerful ball into the top centre. The second goal was a yet another powerful shot, this time top bin volley after an unfortunate deflection in the box. The third one was also a penalty given in 88th minute and ultimately translated into a goal making it 4-3 until the final whistle. He has registered the rating of 9.1, the highest in this matchweek according to Sofascore.
Goalkeeper: Vicente Guaita (8.1 Player Rating)
The man himself responsible for Crystal Palace’s good start to the season. The Spaniard has successfully fended off Southampton’s attack by registering five saves and one clean sheet in a respective 1-0 win.
Right Back: Reece James (8.5 Player Rating)
The English right-back has made a name for himself, sending legendary Azpilicueta on the bench. It looks like betting on the young Englishman has been a good choice after all; one goal and one assist has massively contributed to the team’s 3-1 win against Brighton. The goal was one of a kind, very much reminding us of the one Vincent Kompany scored against Leicester on 6th May 2019; bagged in the top-right corner outside of the box.
Centre Back: Gabriel Magalhaes (8.1 Player Rating)
Another one on the list of Premier League’s debutants and what a debut it has been for the Brazilian. Not every centre-back can celebrate a goal and a clean sheet in a first game of the season. Overall a very good performance, promising for the future defence of Arsenal.
Centre Back: Romain Saiss (8.6 Player Rating)
The Marocain, who once in a while likes to get involved in Wolves offensive plays, has scored a header making it 2-0 against Sheffield United. Paired up with the captain Coady, he has contributed massively to his team’s clean sheet.
Left Back: Lucas Digne (7.9 Player Rating)
The Frenchman has put on a brilliant performance this game week. His assist led to the only goal scored by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a 1-0 clash against Spurs. Producing seven clearances and winning five duels has helped the team to stop Mourinho’s side from scoring.
Centre Mid: Jorginho (8.0 Player Rating)
The Italian didn’t wait too long to score his first penalty goal in 2020/21 Premier League season. It was thanks to Chelsea’s new signing Timo Werner who has won a penalty for Jorginho to execute it in the 23rd minute. Later on, the midfielder has been involved in an absolute screamer produced by Reece James.
Centre Mid: Mateusz Klich (7.0 Player Rating)
After his long and rich European journey, the time has now come for his first-ever Premier League season and it has started very promisingly. The Polish midfielder has produced a mouthwatering equaliser, making it 3-3 against Liverpool. Absolutely everything about this goal was right – the place, time, first touch and execution. It was a very special day for the player and the team, despite losing 4-3 at the end.
Centre Mid: Jeff Hendrick (8.4 Player Rating)
The midfielder has produced one goal and one assist in a 2-0 victory over West Ham. It is also the first time for the experienced Irish to seal both one goal and assist in a single Premier League game. Ultimately, it looks like Hendrick’s transfer from Burnley to Newcastle was a good move after all.
Left Wing: Willian (8.1 Player Rating)
The Brazilian’s debut at Arsenal has gone beyond everyone’s wildest dreams. He has registered an outstanding hat-trick of assists; being involved in every goal of a 3-0 win against newly-promoted Fulham. The way Willian has been naturally moving on the pitch and understanding instantly his fellow teammates’ intentions has given us a lot of reasons to get excited about Arsenal this season.
Striker: Jamie Vardy (8.3 Player Rating)
The Englishman has started the season with a big style by scoring two goals in an impressive 3-0 result for The Foxes. The striker who ages like a fine wine is looking again to compete for another Premier League golden boot.
Right Wing: Mohamed Salah (9.1 Player Rating)
The Egyptian has put on a stunning performance versus Leeds. Two penalties and one breath-taking volley have made the agile forward take home the match ball. Ultimately, the game has ended 4-3, and the result has given Klopp’s side a lot to think about before stepping into the next fixture.
Other impressive performers
Tariq Lamptey: Brighton’s rising star has been a key element in a confrontation against Chelsea. The youngster has made many runs on the right side which ultimately translated to him assisting to Trossard’s fabulous goal.
Timothy Castagne: The Belgian has made his first debut for Leicester, and it was a very successful one. One goal, one clean sheet and nine duels won forecasts a bright season for the right-back.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: The 23-years-old has scored the only goal leading to Everton’s 1-0 win against Spurs. Luckily for him, he is expected to score plenty of more since Allan, Doucoure and James Rodriguez are now in the side.
James Rodriguez: The Colombian’s debut for Everton was very eye-catching and despite not producing any goal or assist he has given us a foretaste of the magic we are looking forward to this season.
Timo Werner: The German striker has experienced his first Premier League game in which he won a penalty which was very well executed by Jorginho. His fast runs have caught an eye and would produce many good offensive actions.
