Sheffield United vs Arsenal
Who? Sheffield United vs Arsenal in Premier League Matchweek 9 Monday Night Football (Live on Sky Sports)
Where? Bramall Lane, Sheffield
When? 20:00 GMT, Monday 21th October 2019
The final game of Matchweek 9 in the Premier League sees Sheffield United host Arsenal in the Monday Night Football fixture at Bramall Lane.
The Blades were very unlucky to have not stopped leaders’ Liverpool last time out. A goalkeeping error from Dean Henderson overshadowed an excellent display, which they eventually lost 1-0. Bramall Lane is set for another tough opponent; however, a similar performance level with more clinical finishing could mean Sheffield United could get something out of the game. Arsenal struggles on the road and have done so for the past few seasons, meaning a great opportunity to cause an upset.
The Gunners rather unconvincingly got a victory last time out against Bournemouth at home. A David Luiz header was the only goal to separate the sides, and there were worrying signs in the second half performance. It appears Arsenal are much more dangerous and creative in their cup games compared to the league so far this season. The Gunners will hope for a solid performance for 90 minutes as the side have built a reputation for being a one half team under Unai.
Sheffield United (14/5* to Win): Chris Wilder has to assess the fitness of David McGoldrick who has been out for a few weeks. They may leave striker Oli McBurnie out the squad having committed a drink-driving charge a few days prior to this game. We expect veterans Billy Sharp and Phil Jagielka will be available on the bench for the Blades.
Arsenal (19/20* to Win): We expect Unai Emery to give full back Kieran Tierney his full Premier League debut for the Gunners. Lacazette may get the start down the middle after recovering from an injury. Hector Bellerin has a task of competing with Calum Chambers for his right back spot. Ozil could be outcast once again by the new arrival Dani Ceballos. We expect Arsenal to persist with Nicolas Pepe in the frontline despite struggling to hit the heights so far.
In 113 meetings since 1903, Arsenal have the edge with 48 wins and 26 draws, with Sheffield United recording 39 wins.
Interestingly, Arsenal have never beaten Sheffield United in the Premier League era, with their last league win coming in 1991. The Gunners won 2-0 thanks to goals from Alan Smith and Kevin Campbell.
Arsenal have won six of the last eight meetings between the sides, with just three defeats in their last 20 battles dating back to 1981.
The last time Sheffield United played Arsenal in the league at home, they were victorious. The Blades won 1-0 back in 2006.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang First Scorer – 11/4*
