Astro Pug – Slot Review

In an age of themed slot games, sometimes all you need is a thrilling narrative or an engaging character to wow players.

This leads us neatly on the brilliant Astro Pug, who is one of the cutest and most adventurous little guys that we know. He’s also the undoubted star of the Astro Pug slot, which has captured the imagination of a cult audience in the UK.

But what’s great about this slot, and why should you care? We’ve answered all this and more below!

Layout and Design – Celebrating a Cosmic Game

Before you delve into the Astro Pug gameplay, your eyes will be drawn to the colourful and almost cartoon-ish graphics.

They also dominate the screen with a unique 4×4 central reel grid. This is flanked by two additional reel sets on either side.

Not only does this sit against a delightfully Oriental backdrop with vibrant blues and greens, but it also allows for 1,296 pay lines and more ways to win than you can realistically count in one sitting!

In this respect, the Lightning Box design team has worked hard to combine simplistic graphics with a purposeful and unique layout, and one that contributes to frequent base game wins and a competitive return-to-player (RTP) rate of 95.72%.

Rules and Symbols – What Do You Need to Know?

Whilst we understand all too well the captivating nature of the intrepid Astro Pug, it’s important to understand the mechanics of the slot before you wager your hard-earned cash.

This journey begins by toggling the Coin Stack to establish your stake level, with coin sizes available between 0.01 and 0.5.

You can also stake between one and 10 coins per line, creative a betting range that starts at £0.50 and ends with a maximum £250 per spin! If you want to wager the same amount for a sustained period, you can also deploy the Autoplay feature to achieve and increase the pace of gameplay considerably.

As we’ve already said, the slot’s cartoon-ish graphics and symbols add a uniquely fun dimension to the game, with low-value icons including colourful iterations of the nine, Jack, Queen, King and Ace playing cards.

The higher-end symbols include a small child, a pink koi and the jade monkey, the latter of which pays out 300 coins when you land four across the central reels during the base game.

As for our beloved Astro Pug, he serves as the game’s wild, and whilst he can replace other icons to form additional winning combinations he only appears on reels two, three and four during the base game.

Payouts and Features – Pursuing Big But Infrequent Wins

The eagle-eyed players amongst you will also notice the Bone multiplier icon, which appears on reel two can optimise the value of any winning combination that it contributes to.

It can add a random multiplier of two, three or four times the size of any relevant win, and the real-time value of the bonus will be shown in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

This slot also features a scatter symbol, and when you land at least five on the outer ring of the reel grid, you’ll trigger the slot’s main bonus round.

This will provide you with three initial free spins, although there’s no upper limit regarding how many you can receive.

During each spin, an outer position (starting from the top left) will reveal either a pug or a bomb icon, with the former providing an additional spin to continue to bonus and the latter bringing the round to a dramatic conclusion.

The pug will also remain wild during this round, and if you fill all the outer positions with this symbol, you’ll unlock the coveted Mega Spin feature. Here, the 16 central grid spaces will all become wild, enabling you to pursue the maximum jackpot of 150,000 coins!
