UFC Fight Night 174 Darren Till Rob Whittaker

UFC Fight Night betting tips: Darren Till takes on Robert Whittaker in 4th and final UFC Fight Island card for July!

UFC Fight Night is fourth and final confirmed cards on the Abu Dhabi Yas Island, known as Fight Island. We look ahead at all three main card bouts on this stacked UFC Fight Night card from the middle east.

UFC Fight Night Main Event: Darren Till (England) vs Robert Whittaker (Australia)

The UFC Fight Night Main Event features a Middleweight bout between Darren Till and Robert Whittaker. Both fighters have competed at Welterweight in the past.

Till (18-2-1)

“The Gorilla” is back on the win column and looks hungry to tear up this UFC Middleweight Division. Like Whittaker, the move up from welterweight seems to be the way forward for the Liverpudlian. His only two losses came at Welterweight against Tyron Woodley, who has fallen off since, and Jorge Masvidal who made up the significant size difference with his precise striking on the feet. Darren Till last fought in November last year and got a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum, a fairly lucky win which could have gone either way.

Both fighters are durable and can go the distance but Till will need to rely on controlling this fight and be effective with his striking, particularly in the early rounds if he wants to get a stoppage win. The 27-year-old wants fight Israel Adesanya for the belt if he beats Robert Whittaker. There are very few, if any, that can hit harder than Darren Till in the division and Whittaker will need to be wary of that left hand. He is  10/11* to get the win and shot at the belt.

Whittaker (20-5)

The move from Welterweight to middleweight for Rob Whittaker was a great one. Four of his five defeats in his career came in the smaller weight division. Cutting all that weight for a big-framed 6ft fighter saw him lose to the likes of Steve Thompson and Court McGee in 2014. Interestingly, Till also fought “Wonderboy” and over five rounds got a decision win. An eight-fight win streak in the Middleweight division saw him gain the UFC Middleweight title after beating Yoel Romero in 2017. In the enormous UFC event in Australia last year, he could not hold out against the amazing counter strikes of Israel Adesanya.

He made just one title defence against Romero and this will be his first bout since that title shot back in October 2019. “The Reaper” has seen four of his last six wins come via decision win his best chance to secure a win in this bout could be to go the distance again. In comparison to Till, Whittaker will probably have the better output across each round if Till cannot put the Australian to the canvas with his left. He is a slight favourite in this one at 17/20* to win with Mark Jarvis.

Stacked UFC Fight Night Main Card

Dana White rounds up the UFC Fight Night main card with some big fights in the across the divisions. In the co-main, vets Mauricio “Shogun” Rua takes on 44-year-old Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, known as “Lil Nog”, in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division. “Shogun” is the slight favourite to be the king of the vets at 1/2*. That fight follows an epic match up between Alexander Gustafsson and Fabricio Werdum in the Heavyweight Division. This is Gustafsson’s first fight at Heavyweight, having competed at Light Heavyweight previously. He is the favourite to seal the win as well at a 1/4*. There are four more fights before then in a main card that features SEVEN bouts.

Carla Esparza gets a rescheduled clash with Marina Rodriguez in the UFC Women’s Strawweight Division. It is Esparza’s opponent, who is still undefeated, who is the favourite in this one at 4/7* with Mark Jarvis. Scotsman Paul Craig, who drew with “Shogun” Rua last year, will fight Russian Gadzhimurad Antigulov in the light heavyweight division. The opening two main card bouts are in the UFC Welterweight Division as Alex Oliveira faces Peter Sobotta, whilst Khamzat Chimaev takes on Rhys McKee. Undefeated Swede Chimaev only just fought on the July 15th card, beating Welshman John Phillips via submission. He is a clear favourite to get another win in quick succession to his name at 1/12*.
